The story behind our California health spa resort

Before founding Golden Door, Deborah Szekely and her husband managed a modest retreat called Rancho La Puerta (Spanish for “The Door”) in Baja California, Mexico, that grew over time from a "bring-your-own-tent" health farm to a beautiful, Spanish-style resort. Although Rancho La Puerta was a success, many of Szekely’s guests expressed interest in a more luxurious spa experience. The Golden Door health spa in southern California was Szekely’s response. Little did she know that by opening Golden Door, she was beginning a revolution in personal health and fitness that would lead to the birth of an entire industry.
